When Louis XIV died, he left France in a very bad shape. This was due to his warmongering. Louis XIV had no respect for other human beings. And he greatly overestimated his abilities.
The conclusions of the book overlap with those of Governed by lies. Both books show the arrogance and lack of integrity and competence of “leaders”, and the unreliability of history writing. History writing is far too positive about Louis XIV. It betrays his many victims, and hinders learning lessons.
